She still burns like the Vermont but with her better speed, she can slide in and out of cover easier to avoid sustained fire. Her AA is decent enough and she deals with DD's a bit easier. She is quicker, hits like a truck and she can take a punch as well. She is a whole different beast and don't get me wrong, I had some big number games in the Vermont but the Montana is far more consistent. I gave up on the Vermont and decided to go back and grind the Montana. In fact I've found myself on the side of a map where 2 of my team mates died and I had no support so I tried to move to the other side but it takes 6-7 minutes to cross and by that time the game is literally over. Trying to catch up with your team later in the game takes forever. Turning around in the Vermont is a pain and leaves your broadside visible for a long time. CV's will target you relentlessly as again your slow and even though AA is not bad, they will use torp planes because your too slow to move out the way. DD's will throw torps your way because they know you are big and slow and it's hard to dodge them in the Vermont. If you get in closer where you are a lot more accurate, you'll quickly find that the HE spammers will keep fires on you until your just a crippled mass.
Once in a while you do get lucky with the broadside cruiser and can destroy them in one hit but it only happens about every 6-7 games and that's if your really good. Most people at Tier 10 are not stupid and when firing at her max range they will slow down, speed up or angle away so that by the time your shells get there, your lucky to scratch 1200-4k off of them. I soon found out that although she hits hard, she will not be deleting ships left and right. Then I finally got the Vermont and was so excited. The Kansas I could say was ok but the Minnesota felt like it took forever to grind through. The preceding ships like Minnesota and Kansas were not that fun. I thought I was just going to delete ships left and right. I was so excited to grind for the Vermont with it's large Alpha strike capability.
I have both ships but I only got both because I made a HUGE mistake and got the Vermont first. My answer is very simple, get the Montana!!!!!! Now if you want me to elaborate on why, here is my answer. I'll make the decision for you because I know your debating back and forth and looking for the right path.
